In a bold tribute to the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, the AI & Data Lab at Palestine Techno Park hosted a thought-provoking interdisciplinary workshop titled “Who Are You Without the Cause?” The event brought together artists, technologists, and cultural practitioners to explore the intersections of artificial intelligence, visual storytelling, and Palestinian identity.
The workshop invited participants to engage with cutting-edge generative tools like MidJourney to reimagine alternative histories and futures of Palestine. Through AI-generated visuals, attendees grappled with themes of displacement, resilience, memory, and futurity—challenging dominant narratives and imagining what might have been, or could still be.
“What would Gaza look like if rebuilt with hope?” and “How can art resist erasure?” were among the guiding questions posed during the session. These prompts sparked emotionally rich, speculative creations that transformed personal and collective memory into visual art. The results ranged from utopian urban landscapes of liberated Palestinian cities to abstract depictions of return, justice, and coexistence.
Beyond digital outputs, the workshop created a space for critical dialogue on the ethics of AI, the role of technology in cultural preservation, and the capacity of art to resist colonial erasure. Participants expressed a renewed sense of agency, using creative technologies not merely as tools, but as instruments of reclamation and resistance.
This workshop marks a significant step in integrating emerging tech into cultural and political discourse in Palestine, affirming that the future of storytelling is as much about imagination as it is about innovation.
